Today’s world is a world on the move. Commerce is global and not merely local. Distances have diminished and people are traveling to the farthest reaches of the globe than ever before in history.
Our constant move calls for our constant communication with the ‘base’, wherever that base might be.

As a result, the devices we carry along have also become multi-functional. Our devices are required to perform at our speed which has no limits anymore.

A cell phone device is our main center of communication these days. It should not come as a surprise that our cell phone has now morphed into a ‘mobile office’ of sorts. It has become the communication center while we are on the move.

On a given day I am in Washington, DC but the next day I could be across the pond conducting business while sipping latte in a cafe in Paris.

Needless to say, these days when we travel, our devices have to perform. If I am able to use my mobile device in Washington DC and perform certain tasks on it, then by no means do I want to give that up as I travel. I want to be able to use the same device anywhere. That’s where unlocked vs. locked cell phones shine.

Often times network carriers program our mobile devices to accept a SIM card from their specific network. Doing so helps them retain subscribers who would otherwise jump from one network carrier to another as the need arises.

Locking the SIM cards also enables the network provider to charge higher than normal ‘roaming’ fees while the subscriber is on the move. Due to a locked phone if I were to keep using my current network provider in Paris, my phone bill would probably become my biggest travel expense.

On the other hand, by using an unlocked cell phone, I am able to ‘localize’ my phone no matter what my location changes to. All I have to do during my travel to Paris is to replace my SIM card from my American service provider by a SIM card from my local albeit temporary French service provider. This move makes even more sense when my temporary French service provider is able to offer me small and temporary phone subscription packages designed specifically for limited use.

So, on and on I travel from one destination to the next; from Paris to Rome and beyond without the fear of being tied down by my network provider from the states. Speaking of Rome, in Rome I always do as the Romans do; use a local network provider.

And, for someone like myself who is always on the lookout for the next latest and greatest device and who could be found with such multiple devices at any given time; I have to have them unlocked.

During the summer, more and more people need cell phone water damage repair services. With the weather being hot, and people going to the beach, heading up to the lake or hanging out by the pool, invariably lots of cell phones suffer accidental water damage. Cell phone water damage requires fast attention! If you wait too long, the damage may be too much to be repaired.

Cell phone water damage of any kind can be extremely destructive to your phone. Why is water damage so serious? Water contact of any kind can be detrimental to your phone, as it can short circuit or erode your phone’s delicate electronic components and inner workings.
Ocean water contains a lot of salt, which makes it highly corrosive. Because of this corrosive tendency, damage happens very quickly when your phone comes into contact with ocean water.

Pool water contains chlorine, which is also highly corrosive. Chlorine and other pool chemicals quickly destroy your phone’s electronic components and can cause irreparable damage if not treated quickly.
Household water is also corrosive because it contains chemicals, such as chlorine, mineral deposits and other substances that are dangerous to your phone’s components. Although household water does not cause damage or corrosion as quickly, it can cause irreversible water damage to your cell phone if it isn’t taken care of quickly.

Do not put it in the microwave or try to dry it with a hair dryer! Adding heat to a water damaged cell phone can only increase the damage and corrosion. You need to get it to a water damage repair specialist who can quickly take the phone apart, clean the phone’s delicate components, and assess the damage quickly and accurately.

If your phone gets wet, follow these steps:

1. Do NOT turn your water damaged cell phone on! This will cause it to short out and could cause permanent damage.

2. Remove the battery immediately.

3. Do NOT use a blow dryer! Although your phone may seem to be dry, the inside circuit board will still be wet.

4. Use a Zip-Lock Bag. Put the WET phone into a Zip-Lock bag and ship it to a cell phone water damage repair specialist immediately.

There was a time that many parents balked at the idea of buying their child a cell phone. Fortunately, many now see that cell phones are the best way for your busy kids to contact you and for you to keep tabs on them. How do you choose which cell phone to buy them with all of the great options out there?

It is important that you do your research and think about the needs of your child as well as what you want out of the phone. All of the companies claim to have a superior product, but you should do a little digging in order to see beyond the hype. There are several brands to choose from. Some of the most popular include:

Firefly Phones

Kajeet Phones

LG Migo

Leapfrog’s Tic Talk phone.

Firefly Phones

The Firefly cell phone is a great option. It is very simple to use because it actually doesn’t have a camera, MP3 player, or video. This phone doesn’t weigh very much as a direct result of losing those features. This will be a relief for many kids and parents as we are used to having to carry quite a bit for our busy lives.

The Firefly kid’s cell phone has a neat display screen that will show how much battery power is left as well as the signal strength that is available. For those parents who are worried about their children answering from unknown callers, phone number ID is displayed for incoming calls.

Your kids may not care so much about the actually functionality of the phone, but they’ll all want their Firefly mobile phone to look cool. There are some neat color skins that you can purchase for your kids to instantly change the look of their cell phone.

The Firefly kids cell phone is a wonderful option for you if you want to have a lot of control over the phone calls your children make and receive. There is no need to worry that your child will spend hours and hours talking on their phone. Parents can control who can call in. This function offers a great piece of mind.

Despite those great features, there are many people who will not be happy with the Firefly prepaid phone. It is missing many of the “cool” features your children have come to appreciate and enjoy. There is no way to organize the phone or send text messages.

Kajeet Phones

Another phone you may want to consider is from Kajeet phones. This phone is unique in that it was designed by parents and beta tested by kids.

Many parents who’ve tested this phone have been very impressed with all that it offers. It can be very dangerous to just give your child a regular cell phone. With regular phones they can call anyone and receive calls from anyone. Kajeet phones really helps to eliminate this problem.

With this phone you can set whom your kids can call. This is important if you don’t want them wasting away their minutes on calling friends for hours on end. Another neat feature is the ability to set the hours when your children can make phone calls.

There are some children who will try and sneak in calls here and there at school. With Kajeet phones you can allow them to call home and 911, but block all other calls during the school day.

Another great feature is that you can give your children a phone allowance. They may miss the ability to buy ringtones and other “fun” things. With Kajeet phone’s cell phone allowance they will have the ability to buy these things if you want them to. Once they’ve spent their allotment, they cannot spend any more money until you’re ready for them to.

Kajeet phones are neat because they’ve really listened to their target audience and their parents. Even a quick visit to their website show that they really do pay attention to what kids in this day and age need and want.

LG Migo Phone

The LG Migo phone is another option in the world of cell phones for kids. It is a bright green color that will immediately attract children who want a cool looking phone to impress their friends. This phone is geared towards a slightly younger audience, which is something to keep in mind.

The phone has five speed dial buttons that you can program. This is a great option for younger children who are unable to remember phone numbers.

LG Migo also has a Chaperone service that is ideal for parents. The system acts as a kind of GPS device. You set the boundaries that are ok for your child to be in. If they leave that area your phone will be notified with a text message. This is something to keep in mind for safe use of cell phones for children

Leapfrog’s TicTalk Phone

Another entry into the world of cell phones for children is Leapfrog’s Tic Talk phone. The TicTalk phone is probably one of the most unique looking cell phones out there. It looks a bit like a stopwatch and is very durable. This is a good model for parents who are worried that their children will immediately break the phone. Leapfrog’s TicTalk phone should stand up to even the most active of children.

The TicTalk works by scrolling through numbers in a phonebook. There is no dialing involved for the child. This may or may not be easy to get used to, but can actually be quite convenient once they learn the ropes.

Parents set the actual phone up online. This is a great way to add convenience for those who prefer the simplicity of typing online.

Kids will want to scoop Leapfrog’s TicTalk phone up because it has games on it that are pre-installed by Leapfrog. The phone is overall more full featured than some other cell phones for kids that are available today.

How Should I Choose?

There are many different cell phones for children that are on the market today. It is up to you and your child to decide which features are the most valuable to you. Your first priority should be the safe use of cell phones for children. Then, pick the best option for your family.

An astonishing number of people own and use a cell phone, with current figures totaling over 800 million worldwide. It has has become an important part of daily life, and improves business and travel opportunities, whilst providing the best possible level of communication across the globe.

However, the high numbers of users are also subject to changing trends for a number of reasons including improved features, fashion and accessories. This means that upgrades are a regular occurrence, with each device being used for an estimated 12 to 18 months. This means that there is a lot of cell phone waste.

Many users are not aware of the potential damage to the environment that incorrect disposal of cell phones can cause. Incorrect disposal means throwing any cell phone away, which is the typical fate assigned to an unwanted device. However, components within it can have a terrible impact on the environment and so need special disposal. All cell phones contain persistent metals which do not degrade in the environment. They also contain bioaccumulative metals which become toxic over period of time.

For instance, cadmium which is present in a cell phone is significant enough to cause damage in small doses. It is the seventh most harmful known chemical, and is capable of causing cancer. Cell phones also contain lead which causes liver damage in adults and neurological development problems in children when entered into the bloodstream. Other hazardous substances such as nickel and mercury provide further cause for concern.

If not disposed of properly, the metals from the cell phone can leak into the environment through corrosion and cause a series of problems in the environment. If thrown away, it will go to a landfill where it will remain. As many elements do not decompose, the level of harmful toxins increases and so does the potential damage. Lithium can burn with water exposure, and so can potentially begin underground fires when present in large quantities. Any of the hazardous or poisonous substances could contaminate local water supplies or the nearby soil. If either of these is affected than the toxins enter the food chain with terrible results.

In effect, incorrect disposal of the cell phone can create a form of poisoning. The immediate effects include health problems such as genetic or reproductive defects and detrimental effects upon the nervous system and delayed general development. The long term effect is global pollution. When waste that can not be broken down properly such as that in a cell phone is decomposing it creates methane gas. Methane gas is more damaging than CO2 and so has major impact on global warming. Not many people realize that all this can be caused by disposing it in an incorrect manner.

The best way to combat cell phone damage to the environment is to recycle it by returning it to a shop. This includes the accessories also. Some shops will ensure the product is sent to developing countries for reuse. Others will reclaim the metal parts to prevent them going into a landfill. Some cell phone companies even make a charity donation for every recycled device to encourage the practice. The other possibility is that they will ensure the product is sent for proper disposal. This includes disposal of hazardous materials.

Whichever option is used, the positive side effect is that less hazardous waste goes into the environment. Now that you know the facts, make sure that you dispose of your cell phone properly and remain environmentally sound with this one simple gesture.

The modern cell phone is used for much more than just talk. You can take pictures, shoot video, listen to music, and so much more. And now, with the the addition of Bluetooth, now a standard feature on most new cell phones, you can do all these things easily and more conveniently than ever before, because Bluetooth lets you do it all wirelessly.

However, not all Bluetooth phones are created equal. In order to do any of the cool stuff mentioned here, you’re mobile phone has to support OBEX, which stands for Object Exchange. You see, the Bluetooth specifications allow for many different functions, such as connecting to headsets, sharing data, etc. One function – the one we’re discussing here, is OBEX, which allows your phone to exchange data wirelessly with other devices. Now, a certain cellular carrier (whom we will simply refer to as V), along with a few other manufacturers, have chosen to cripple the functionality of their phones by deliberately disabling OBEX. They do this for a number of reasons, but the end result is, if your phone doesn’t support OBEX, you can’t do any of these cool things. So, the next time you shop for a new cell phone, you may want to first check to make sure your Bluetooth is not crippled in any way before making a purchase. (By the way, even if the manufacturer has disabled OBEX, it may still be possible for users to enable it – do a web search to try and find a software fix for your phone. Of course, be aware that you may void your warranty if you screw up, so be careful!)

The top 5 coolest things you didn’t know you could do with your Bluetooth cell phone.

1) Use your phone as a wireless modem for your laptop – surf the internet by connecting wirelessly through your cell phone. This is my top pick. Why spend extra for a cellular modem and separate data plan when Bluetooth lets you use your cell phone to connect wirelessly to the web? Most carriers offer an unlimited use data plan – for around 20 bucks extra a month, you can get unlimited data access. So, by installing the right scripts in your laptop, you can configure it to connect to your cell phone with Bluetooth for instant, wireless internet access. The real beauty of this setup is that, since most people already carry their cell phones with them, they can get a secure internet connection wherever they get a signal, and not worry about carrying adapters or having a special modem card. Also, I feel much safer using my own connection anyway, rather than rely on open public hotspots especially when I want to access my bank accounts or other private sites. Every cell phone is different, so if you want to find out how to connect with yours, just google it. Try using the terms “how to use my (phone model) as a Bluetooth modem”.

2) Take pictures on your camera phone and download it to your computer – without having to search for a cable or adapter. Some of today’s phones pack 3 or more megapixels – enough to shoot some very nice pictures. So, the next time you’re on vacation, or out with friends, and you just happened to forget to pack your camera, chances are you probably have your cell phone. Just snap away, and when you’re done, use Bluetooth to download those pictures onto your laptop wirelessly.

3) Synchronize your contacts list with your computer – tired of manually entering all your names and numbers into your new cell phone? Just use Bluetooth to automatically synchronize your phone’s contacts list with the one stored in your computer. No more having to use your phone’s keypad to enter all that tedious information. What’s more, your phone probably comes with software to automatically keep your contacts list up to date whenever phone is placed near your computer

4) Use your phone to play music, with stereo Bluetooth headphones – don’t have, or don’t want an IPod? Why bother carrying yet another piece of electronics with you just to listen to music, when you can use your phone? The latest models have removable memory cards and built in mp3 playback capability. Just pop a 4 or 6 GB memory card into your phone, and start downloading all those mp3s stored in your computer wirelessly, right to your phone. And, some of the newest phones also support stereo Bluetooth playback, allowing you to listen to your tunes with wireless stereo headphones.

5) Share your favorite pictures, songs, games, and ringtones stored in your phone with your friends by sending them wirelessly to their phone. Have a great ringtone, or some pictures you just took on your cameraphone that you want to share with a friend? Send it to them via Bluetooth, and never have to think about having the right cables to connect. Just make sure your friend’s Bluetooth is turned On and Discoverable, and start sending.

So, there you have it. Some of the most useful and fun things you can do with your Bluetooth cell phone. And remember – you can’t do any of these things unless your cell phone supports the Bluetooth OBEX, or file transfer, protocol. So, if you’re in the market for a new phone, make sure you check first before making your purchase. With all the benefits Bluetooth provides, it’s time for smart users to demand that manufacturers stop crippling our phones. Have fun!

What makes mobile phones so incredible? Of course its extraordinary functionalities and the multitasking ability! Mobile phones have become an indispensable part of our life. Slowly and steadily every one of us–from the professional to the general public everybody is accustomed in using mobile phones. You will hardly find people without a mobile phone.

The utility of mobile phones is perhaps the greatest reason for the iconic popularity of this portable device. Mobile phones have made communication easier and more convenient than before. Also, with the inclusion of music players and camera in the mobile phones they are also a good entertaining device for us. In fact, we are no longer burdened to carry multiple devices while travelling. Instead, by carrying a music phone we can decrease our to-be-carried devices. We can enjoy music on the go and fight boredom, and refresh our minds from the devil’s grip of a long day monotonous work. The Java enabled games in Samsung U600, Motorola RAZR, Nokia N73 phones also give exciting gaming experiences which could be enjoyed anywhere on the move.

Lets talk about those 3G mobile phones like Nokia N81, N95, LG Shine, Sony Ericsson W580i etc. empowered with Bluetooth and Infrared Port! Everything that can give a great feeling of seamless connectivity is to be found in mobile phones of today.

With the Internet browsing options available in modern day handsets, our life has become much more easier. Everything you want from booking tickets to shopping is done online today. So, with the help of mobile phones you can access the internet and execute your tasks related to internet by sitting at home. The professionals can do most of the urgent official works with the help of document viewers and other Microsoft office software, in-built in the smart phones. Thus mobile phones are great friends which follow us like a shadow.

However, researchers are of the opinion that prolonged use of mobile phones may cause cognitive disabilities, brain tumour and other health risks. Some scientists even say that long exposure to phone radiations may lead to infertility. So, they may be risky at times.

With all its advantages and disadvantages, mobile phones remain our sole companion accompanying us in every step of our life.

We all know what motion detection is. I am sure you either own or have seen such items as motion detecting lights and doors. Up until recently that technology was mostly reserved for making life a bit easier at your supermarket so the door opens for you, or safer at home, when you walk to your front door at night and lights go on so you aren`t standing there in the dark looking for your keys. With the introduction of Nintendo`s Wii video game system, never before has the consumer seen the use of motion detection for just pure pleasure.

In the Nintendo Wii, a game user will motion with their hands, arms etc., with the controller in their and the game system will pick up that motion, transferring it to what is on the screen. It is this same technology that is now starting to be implemented into cell phone use.

According to Amanda C. Kooser of Entrepreneur magazine, “motion sensing devices that use accelerometers aren`t new.” Accelerometers are measuring devices for specific external forces. “However, integrating them into cell phones has been slow going,” Kooser claims.

One company that is hoping to speed the process up of getting the technology to market is GestureTek. They make a product called EyeMobile, that is used in gesture recognition. The eye mobile links up with your cell phone`s camera to help detect motion. With that motion detection it simulates many features you currently do by hand, such as scrolling, turning pages and so on.

After speaking with with Francis MacDougall, Kooser says, the cofounder and CTO of GestureTek claims, “The idea of making a much more intuitive way to access the phone`s functions without having to access all of those small buttons is the major advantage.”

According to Kooser, Verizon is currently the only cell phone service provider that uses some sort of motion detection in their phones, but it is used mainly for games that come with it. In the no to distant future, motion detection for your cell phone will enable you to surf the web easier, browse photos, navigate maps, zooming for various applications and so much more.

The idea behind using motion on cell phones is to make them “more user friendly for increasingly advanced applications,” Kooser says.

Finding a cell phone service provider, along with getting the right phone, rate plan and service you require isn’t an easy task. Different brands exist and each of these brands comes with different plans, pricing options as well as colors. You even have different types of contracts to sign, the best thing however is to be prepared before you start your search for a cell phone provider.

The most important thing that matters when you’re choosing a provider is the geographical location within which you intend to make use of the service. Everything else may be fine and well but after all that if you have a poor service package in the area where you want to use your phone, everything else is useless.

You should think most importantly about how you intend to use the service and where and when it will be used. How do you intend to make use of your phone? Will you be using it for conversational purposes or strictly for business, will you be using it at home or during travel? You should also think of the user of the phone, that is you or the person you intend to purchase the phone for. Is the person old or young? Older people are less proficient with technology than younger people. Having the answers to these questions will help you determine other essential aspects which will get you the right carrier, technology and the coverage areas needed including features and rate plans.

A number of major carriers and a number of smaller carriers will most likely service the area where you live as well. You may choose to visit a store where their products are sold or you may opt to purchase their goods and services over the Internet. You should assess the coverage area and determine what will suit your own particular needs. A number of different plans exist and they range from regional to national or international coverage plans.

Other than this you have to figure out the rate plan that fits with your manner of usage. Some plans are limited, others allow for a number of different users at a discount while some allow internetwork calls to people you call regularly at no extra charge to you. Certain plans supply you with free phones, shipping, unlimited calling or night/ weekend rates or some other such offer. You should know that certain roaming fees apply for making calls that are not within your coverage area. Certain bundled plans also exist and these plans tend to combine your new phones with rate plans and other things that can end up saving you a lot of money.

Making the decision to sign a one or two year contract or an alternative plan is a personal choice. However, before you bring out your pen to sign a contract, make sure that you consider it carefully and pay the utmost attention to all the details. Do you have a grace period? How long is it and what does it offer you? If you decide to terminate your contract early, do termination costs apply? Make sure you take a look at the different plans offered by various carriers and choose what suits your needs.
